Having trouble talking to a live person at USCIS? Try out this online feature.

Over the years, reaching a live person at USCIS is getting harder and harder. Prior to the pandemic, you could simply walk into a USCIS field office and easily schedule an appointment to speak to a representative. Then you could just sit down with them and go through your questions. You could also call USCIS and easily speak to a customer service agent. Now, when you call you reach a virtual assistant and trying to get a live agent on the line is becoming for difficult.

Recently, I discovered another option. USCIS has a live chat option on their website, through the virtual assistant Emma. Just request a live chat. I found it really convenient. The wait was not to long, just a few minutes. If you do try it, be sure to have basic case information in front of you, such as your case number, and the address/phone number with which you filed. Once the agent connect to the chat, then you can ask your questions and get the answers you need.

So, the live chat feature is another option in our toolbox to get case support. I will be using it in the future, rather than always trying to make a call. While I wait, I can continue to do other work, and can easily type out my questions when the chat begins. I highly suggest that you give this feature a try.
