My journey as an immigration attorney.
My first exposure to immigration law came early in my career when I was working as a public defender in a rural county in Central Washington State. I found that many of my clients were migrant farm workers, who had come to the US to work in the many orchards that run the economy in Central Washington. Many had immigration holds, knowing that once their court case was done at the state level, they would be heading to immigration court. I would interact with immigration attorneys, usually from nonprofit organizations, who would assist them with their cases. Our actions at the state level, even for the most minor of offenses, could have disastrous consequences for any future immigration. Many times, these were people who had families, US citizen children, and who had been in the US for many years. That experience opened my eyes to the reality of our broken immigration system. Some years later, in a period of transition, I took a position with a nonprofit dedicated to serving the immigrant population. From my first interactions with clients, I found immigration law to be different than every other type of law I had practiced. So often the law is only dealing with people at their worst, a crime, a divorce, an injury. People are struggling and you have to help guide them through difficult situations. Immigration law is different. Even when people are facing what seem like insurmountable odds, there is always hope. We are working toward a goal, even if it will take many years to achieve. I grew to love the positive aspect of immigration law. Early on, I focused my practice on family based immigration, helping families achieve their goal, being reunited in this wonderful country filled with opportunity. Everyone, from every part of the world, has a story to tell, and something to offer. I love seeing my clients, many years later, who have achieved their goals. It has truly been my honor to assist thousands of clients to achieve their immigration dream. Even when it appears our system is so broken, thousands follow the legal route to residency and citizenship. I am here to help you achieve your immigration goal.
